Permits are the only public record that says what physically happened to a property and who did the work. Our file covers permits nationally, with a deeply cleaned subset of 24 million permits carrying contractor name, license and contact, which we have clustered into a company master of hundreds of thousands of contractors ranked by activity, city by city.
For property buyers it is a condition and improvement history. For manufacturers, distributors and lead-gen companies it is a way to find the contractors who actually pull permits rather than the ones who merely have a website.

How it is built
Permits arrive from a licensed national aggregator plus direct pulls from city open-data portals. Contractor strings are normalized and clustered on exact keys so a company appears once with all its permits. Rankings are computed per metro so a roofer's rank means something locally.
Questions we get
Do all cities include the contractor?
No. Some jurisdictions publish permits without a contractor field. We tell you up front which metros carry it; roughly 24 million permits do.
Can you tell me the age of a roof?
Where a roofing permit exists, yes. We combine permit history with year built and hazard exposure in our insurance risk dataset.
